Playgroups

Playgroups are conceived as a fun time that children share with their mum/dad/grandma.

The presence of an adult is key because young children learn thanks and through their mummy or daddy. Parents actively participate in the playgroup by telling the story with the teacher, singing, dancing and playing, therefore capturing the children’s attention and interest.
Moreover during the Playgroup we only speak English, so the presence of mum or dad can reassure the little ones in case they feel lost in the face of this new language.
Thanks to their active participation the parents will be able to go back to the work we’ve done together at home too, thus introducing English into their everyday life.
Starting at a young age children will not learn English, but they will acquire it naturally, just like they acquire their native language.

The main goals of Playgroups are:

  • Have fun in order to associate the sounds of the English language something nice and fun.
  • Spend some quality time with mum or dad because the learning process is grounded on the relationship with the child’s loved ones.
  • Help families introduce English into their everyday life with tips and playful tricks.

From six years old children participate alone, without an adult. This allows us to form bigger groups (10 children maximum) having a chance to involve them directly and encourage them to exploit their inner qualities and use English actively.

PEACHES (6-9 years old):

Duration: 60’
Participants: children
Activities: We read a story and make sketches representing it, we play games, quizzes, puzzles and role-play games during which the children use their inner resources and knowledge to communicate in English. We dance and sing…in English!
If the group is ready, we start reading using Jolly Phonics!
Parents are updated weekly and given the tools to keep playing in English with their children.
Objectives:
- Have fun in English in order to associate it with a pleasant activity.
- Use English actively through games, sketches, dance and arts and crafts.
- Repetition, acquisition and writing of words and sentences using Jolly Phonics.
